For most of the trip, you will be staying in a remote boutique lodge in the city of Turrialba. The rooms will be doubles with ensuite bathrooms.

We'll stay in double accommodations at our white-water rafting river eco-lodge for 1 night.

Solo travelers are paired with someone of the same gender.  You can request a friend to be your roommate upon checkout.

If you'd prefer not to have a roommate, private room options are available upon request, subject to hotel availability for an extra charge.  Please contact bookings@over30experiences.com.

The average temperature in Costa Rica’s Central Caribbean is 75-85 Fahrenheit during the day, and 60-75 Fahrenheit at night.

Please expect showers and thunderstorms some days that pass through the rainforest.

This trip is for those who enjoy being physically challenged and reaping the rewards. It includes moderate to intense physical activities and participants should expect to be active 6-8 hours most days. Participants should have an active lifestyle.

We’ve included many activities in the price of the trip giving you plenty to do. However, we pride ourselves in helping you make the trip perfect for you. Therefore we’ve sought out the best activities and vendors to help you have the experience you want.  

And don’t worry, your trip leader can help set up any of the following optional activities for you so you can sit back and enjoy your trip.

-Horseback riding: $35-$50 USD

We can’t guarantee wildlife sightings, but the most commonly seen wildlife are White Face Capuchin Monkeys, Squirrel Monkeys, Sloths, Scarlett Macaws, Iguanas, and Toucans.

Bring cash with you! We recommend you have at least $200 USD cash on you during the trip for lunches, snacks, optional activities, souvenirs, etc.

All places accept USD so you do not need to convert to the local currency.

ATM's will be accessible in most towns, and you can exchange money at the airport. Keep in mind that some places may not accept credit cards. It’s always a good idea to carry cash on you.

Activities near San Jose we recommend are La Paz Waterfall Gardens and Doka Estate Coffee Tour in Alajuela. If you have more than one day we recommend visiting the Poas or Irazu Volcanoes.

Alajuela Backpackers is our favorite budget hostel close to the airport. The most convenient places to stay are the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, or Courtyard by Marriot, although we recommend staying at locally owned places whenever possible. If you want to stay in the San Jose city center, 30-60 minutes from the airport, check out Hostel Casa del Parque. It’s near the Barrio Escalante/La California neighborhoods, which are known for their nightlife.

Selina’s Hostels offer good vibes throughout the country and have hip co-working spaces in case you need to get a little work done.

When traveling to Costa Rica, citizens of the United States, Canada, most Latin American and European countries are entitled to stay in Costa Rica for 90 days.

They must enter the country with a departure ticket and a valid passport that does not expire before they leave Costa Rica. We always recommend having a passport that does not expire for at least 3-6 months after the end of your stay.

Costa Rica uses 110 volts, 60 cycle electricity, just like the US. Plugs are typically the 2 pronged flat types so US travelers will not typically need a converter or adapter.
